To the Editor:

Re “The Right Stride,” by Gretchen Reynolds (Phys Ed, Science Times, Aug. 8):

I have seen far too many injured runners, hurt as a result of repetitive bad form, buy into the notion that one’s “natural” stride is most efficient.

Many people exhibit deficits in alignment, joint mobility, strength, balance, muscle length, endurance and power that make it difficult to run skillfully without the risk of injury. Addressing these deficits is the solution to reducing the risk of injury, and improving form and overall satisfaction.
